Compared with conventional surface filters of similar dimensions and porosity, string wound cartridges offer greater dirt-holding capacity and efficient sediment removal.

They are offered in various winding materials, including standard, fibrillated, FDA-grade, and utility-grade polypropylene, natural and bleached cotton, rayon, polyester, nylon, modacrylic, and heat-cleaned glass fiber.
